A LITTLE GUIDANCE
Practise multiplication with purpose
Begin when a learner can make equal groups and count them. Repeated addition helps connect a new multiplication fact to something familiar.
A sensible next step
- The starter preset uses factors from 0 to 5. Use a smaller custom range to focus on fewer facts.
- The building preset includes factors from 0 to 12. In mixed-table mode the order can vary because 4 × 7 and 7 × 4 represent the same product.
- Ask for an array or a known-fact strategy before adding pressure to answer quickly. This is untimed practice.
Example: 6 × 7
Use a familiar fact: 5 × 7 = 35. Add one more group of 7 to get 42. This gives 6 × 7 = 42. An array with 6 rows of 7 shows the same total.
Watch for this
Confusing 6 × 7 with 6 + 7 changes the task. Ask how many groups there are and how many objects are in each group.
Try a five-minute lesson
Select the 4 times table, range 0 to 12 and six questions. Draw an array for one fact, then connect it to doubling twice: 4 × 6 = 2 × (2 × 6) = 24. Read 0 × 4 as zero groups of four and 1 × 4 as one group; include these deliberately rather than treating them as tricks.
Respond to the method
A fixed-table sheet concentrates practice, but a correct page can rely on pattern recognition. Follow it with mixed tables in the same range and ask the learner to name a helpful known fact. For 7 × 8, using 5 × 8 + 2 × 8 gives 40 + 16 = 56. Increase the range only when the strategy makes sense. Repeated facts may appear; this generator does not guarantee each fact once.
How these settings work
Choose a fixed table from 0 to 20, or mix tables. In fixed-table mode, the minimum and maximum apply only to the other factor. In mixed-table mode they apply to both factors. Zero factors are permitted; repeated facts can occur.
Generated answers are checked separately against mathematical relationships before the sheet is displayed. Select settings using your knowledge of the learner; these resources are not curriculum-certified.
